The creation of an object that expresses an idea merely by its appearance, may be a work of art. Such phenomena may be beautiful or not, but they must be the work of an intelligent agent. A work of art requires an artist.

In that we see beauty and artistry in nature, we see a display of God’s artistic choices.

Once, years ago, when I was talking about design in dinosaurs, an art teacher in the audience responded enthusiastically. She said that she had never realized that God is an artist!
